After 22 years of recovery I am sure of more principles today. When you do the right things long enough you develope character, integrity, reputation and prosperity! Who would have ever thought that a once homeless man with training and ambition could become an employer,author, philanthropist and friend to so many people. Be blessed and know that the "higher power" has the ability to provide what ever opportunities you are able to seize. We are responsible to do the work. He will provide the way! Gratitude will be the byproduct of your efforts realizing that you could not have done this by yourself! We are lucky to have the most successful fellowship in history for the inebriate. It is amazing to me how much comfort comes from being responsible in living. When I do what a responsible person is obligated to do, life is good! I have been on this track for so many years that it is what is usual for me and my family. I remember the days when nothing was usual except fear, regret, shame and a longing for the kind of life that I now possess. Wait, I am on to something here. Make a note of that ! When you do what you are responsible to do, living gets easier! When you keep your word(be honest,) fear disappears! When we do these things day after day after day while staying sober, we learn to be self supporting, obey the law, provide safety and provision for our families while achieving our life goals. When we begin to share and support others in their similar goals and activities our integrity is developed or restored. The promises of recovery are coming true for us also! The promises are available to all who work this recovery program. The proof is here!

I met with a court administrator today about the benefits of treatment verses incarceration. I believe they are agreeable to the concepts but struggle with the financial responsibility issues. As recovering addicts we are taught in (AA- step 7) of recovery to be self supporting through our own contributions. The new age “restorative justice” model requires that society, some how, provide a level of comfort for criminals so that they feel a party of, and equal to, other law abiding citizens. This in someway mystically transforms ”crooks, thieves, liars, rapist‘s, murderers, thugs, and robbers,” into your mild mannered next door neighbor, Mr. Roberts? Lunacy, insanity, stupidity and ignorance from the liberal socialist in our government. I do believe in charity for the widows and orphans until they become chronic lawbreakers. Step 7 requires, mandates that we are to accept responsibility for our actions, make amends as best we can, and change our behaviors! Freedom is not free! A miracle of recovery rode a Harley motorcycle into my driveway tonight. A man I have known for many years and who has suffered as severe a case of alcoholism as I have seen in my 20 years of personal recovery. He came into my home and reached for a tiny, new 5 pound baby boy named Jackson. His adoptive mother was shocked when my Pamela smiled and handed her new son to this very large man wearing a leather Harley jacket and a huge brass bull dozer belt buckle . Pastor Ron, I called him, so as to give this new mother hope that all was well and her new son safe! This is recovery as intended by the AA program. I see recovery in the men I work with because they are doing the work of "recovery!" Newcomers don't quickly realize how much work is involved in recovery! The damage done must be corrected. Change is slow and difficult! When we make the lists(road maps to progress) we put our dreams on paper!(steps4&8)in order. When you get to the step you will be better equipped to accomplish it successfully! The love of sponsorship and fellow addicts is the glue that keeps everything from falling apart!
