A newcomer does not understand spirituality?

If you want a meeting that will liven up the hall bring up the spiritual aspect of recovery? We are guided by the steps and traditions in this area.Step 2 of the AA program makes reference to the "higher power." Each member is required or allowed to make these judgments and decisions at their own pleasure. As a program we do not make our stand on the members personal beliefs. We encourage members to consider that, for our group purpose, we rely on the "power outside ourselves" i.e."higher power" to be the ultimate guide of our journey in sobriety. We admit in step one that doing things our own way led us to A.A.! Being restored to sanity, in step 2 requires that I realize I as a new recovering alcoholic, am in need of such assistance. The group may represent the "higher power" until such a time as our personal views are established. Spirituality is a personal issue and our experience indicates the sooner the better, we rely on this source of hope. Blog on! Mr. Denny

Good to hear from Rach'! sober!

Anytime another alcoholic reaches out we want the hand of AA to be there and for that "I am responsible!" Not a perfect quote but on the fly, you get the meaning. I answered a blog that seemed misplaced but wasn't. Rach' was cruising the blogs and happened to respond to mine? When we come into recovery it is so new in every way. A little uneasy(or very)we begin to gather information so as to come to an awareness of the purpose of this group of(weirdo's)AA members? They hug your neck,(if you will let them) and tell you to come back! AA was the first place I was welcomed in a long, long time, in the beginning! I have been to many meetings over the past 2 decades and go now to share experience, strength and hope with the newcomers and all alike! That is how the program worked for me and how it will work for you! AA just works to help us stay sober! You have only got to keep coming back! Be blessed! Mr. Denny

The children are a joy and a pain!

This saturdeay they(the kids) are a joy! Midweek, they were a pain (royal pain!) Family is like anything else, good and not so good! Ha! When gasoline goes to $5.00 per gallon (and it will!) Americans have got to grow up and stop playing around with their economies! Each family must begin to live a financially responsible lifestyle. As a society we can not spend more than we earn! When does the well run dry? Soon! Very soon! Solutions? Carpool! Drive much less! Walk and ride your bike! When we accept that we must change the way we think about money we will begin to make progress! If we had all the money we have spent on booze and drugs, would it(the money) change our lives? Stop using, save gas, go to meetings and plan your work! Working the plan is the easy part! Mr. Denny

Is it time for you to get sober?

When we become aware that our substance use has become problematic it is usually because of some kind of trauma? Trouble and booze go hand in hand! How do you get honest with yourself regarding this question? Most people experience intervention from outside sources. Police, attorneys, judges, doctors, counselors, family members and the list goes on. When using (alcohol or other drugs)causes problems you have a problem!!! If you did not have a problem you would not have a problem, but YOU DO!!! My book,("www.acureforaddiction.com) explains in plain English about booze, drugs and the recovery process. If I can help, e-mail me at cadphoward@sbcglobal.net Sober life is a good life!! Mr. Denny
