Recovery is all that you want it to be! Or not!

06-06-08Blogpost
Today I worked with 4 clients. I am amazed how little they expect from themselves. Goal setting is not a lost art, it is an unknown art. When recovery is achieved (no use of chemicals and comfortable not using-mostly) that is your recovery. What to do then? Set goals! Write your own story. What would you like to be when you grow up?
Hard to imagine that we have not set a course for our lives but many of us have been to busy seeking, obtaining, using and hiding the addiction to achieve our goals (if we had any to start with?) The clients are involved in the court system. They help me buy rice, clean drinking water and medicine for the orphanages we support in Asia. (You must do something in retirement!) My wife, Pamela, likes me busy! (Keeps me out of her hair! ) Ha!
Your goals must be 1)conceivable 2) believable 3)achievable. If they are? Get started! Plan your work and work your plan!
Good Health and Be Blest!

 The Pink Seven!

06-02-08
Today my client completed his 2nd step and is preparing for the 3rd next week. He is an agreeable fellow. Passive is more like it. He is 30 days sober and his “pink 7!” is high. I encouraged him to be realistic in his expectations for recovery! All is not as it seems! (It will get worse before it gets better!) I didn’t have the heart to explain this to him. He should be allowed to enjoy his peace for a bit anyway!
As time passes and he must work his program the realities will begin to appear. Relationships will be a challenge as he begins to think his opinion counts! (She has been running things for so long, no doubt, she will resist his attempts to assert his influence in their lives! Men all do that!) She will resist as he has made a mess of things and she will no doubt tell him of it!
The party begins! Stay tuned!

ACURE for denial of the disease of addiction!

The denial of the disease is present prior to therapy. What addict says, “today I think I will go to treatment or AA/NA? Hardly! We all have authorities in our lives. My number one authority is my wife, Pamela! (I love her so! “But she is a brat!”) Hehehe! Education about the disease must be a focus of professional treatment to achieve lasting abstinence and recovery. The police, spouses, employers, etcetera, all may be the motivating element for the addicted. Alcohol, drugs, only the form is different.
Addiction is a disease of multiple affect, body, mind, emotion and spirit.
Addiction is characterized by medical science as 1) progressive 2) incurable 3) chronic 4) fatal when untreated 5) recoverable with expert care. The Script, ACURE for Addiction and the AA Big Book direct all to practice this program of recovery! Or not? You decide for you? I hope you join us. Mr. Denny Goodpenny
