the night off! My sweet Pamela and I had dinner out with our group and enjoyed the time away. As important as my men are to me, I never once considered them in my decision to have dinner away from home. Healthy relationships do not require unnecessary attention. If my men are not able to have a night of privacy on their own, then, I have not done a good job as a sponsor! I expect I will get "ribbed good" for not being home for them to contact but you see in healthy relationships, "wanting is not needing." There is a difference! A healthy difference. A very long time ago a supervisor told me that I needed to take the word "every, out of the 12th step!" I had just lost my first client to suicide. It was a traumatic event for me as I had all the predictable questions and feelings that a new counselor might have! It did take me 3 days of processing his (COLD HEARTED COMMENT) for it to finally register with me. He was not a mean supervisor, he felt badly about the loss but he understood that I had no responsibility in it. "EVERY" alcoholic does not get sober, many die! He wanted me to understand and accept that fact of life and death! Relapse is a return to the disease after a period of recovery. Every alcoholic does not get and stay sober. Good health, be blessed!
