A good day in court for an alcoholic is when they let you leave !

I met with a court administrator today about the benefits of treatment verses incarceration. I believe they are agreeable to the concepts but struggle with the financial responsibility issues. As recovering addicts we are taught in (AA- step 7) of recovery to be self supporting through our own contributions. The new age “restorative justice” model requires that society, some how, provide a level of comfort for criminals so that they feel a party of, and equal to, other law abiding citizens. This in someway mystically transforms ”crooks, thieves, liars, rapist‘s, murderers, thugs, and robbers,” into your mild mannered next door neighbor, Mr. Roberts? Lunacy, insanity, stupidity and ignorance from the liberal socialist in our government. I do believe in charity for the widows and orphans until they become chronic lawbreakers. Step 7 requires, mandates that we are to accept responsibility for our actions, make amends as best we can, and change our behaviors! Freedom is not free! Ask a veteran of foreign wars or a police officer’s widow! Reality is what it is! Blog on! Be Blessed! Mr. Denny

Addiction does not always kill. Miracles do happen

A miracle of recovery rode a Harley motorcycle into my driveway tonight. A man I have known for many years and who has suffered as severe a case of alcoholism as I have seen in my 20 years of personal recovery. He came into my home and reached for a tiny, new 5 pound baby boy named Jackson. His adoptive mother was shocked when my Pamela smiled and handed her new son to this very large man wearing a leather Harley jacket and a huge brass bull dozer belt buckle . Pastor Ron, I called him, so as to give this new mother hope that all was well and her new son safe! This is recovery as intended by the AA program. Those who will apply the programs principles to their lives as instructed and remain active in the recovery program can expect to receive abundantly more than they could imagine. www.acureforaddiction.com

Talk is cheap(worthless,) Get to work!

I see recovery in the men I work with because they are doing the work of "recovery!" Newcomers don't quickly realize how much work is involved in recovery! The damage done must be corrected. Change is slow and difficult! When we make the lists(road maps to progress) we put our dreams on paper!(steps4&8)in order. When you get to the step you will be better equipped to accomplish it successfully! The love of sponsorship and fellow addicts is the glue that keeps everything from falling apart! We(the felowship,)are on your side! We are here to help you overcome! Regardless of the time and effort required, you do the work, we will guide you through it all! Blog on! Mr. Denny

A newcomer does not understand spirituality?

If you want a meeting that will liven up the hall bring up the spiritual aspect of recovery? We are guided by the steps and traditions in this area.Step 2 of the AA program makes reference to the "higher power." Each member is required or allowed to make these judgments and decisions at their own pleasure. As a program we do not make our stand on the members personal beliefs. We encourage members to consider that, for our group purpose, we rely on the "power outside ourselves" i.e."higher power" to be the ultimate guide of our journey in sobriety. We admit in step one that doing things our own way led us to A.A.! Being restored to sanity, in step 2 requires that I realize I as a new recovering alcoholic, am in need of such assistance. The group may represent the "higher power" until such a time as our personal views are established. Spirituality is a personal issue and our experience indicates the sooner the better, we rely on this source of hope. Blog on! Mr. Denny

Good to hear from Rach'! sober!

Anytime another alcoholic reaches out we want the hand of AA to be there and for that "I am responsible!" Not a perfect quote but on the fly, you get the meaning. I answered a blog that seemed misplaced but wasn't. Rach' was cruising the blogs and happened to respond to mine? When we come into recovery it is so new in every way. A little uneasy(or very)we begin to gather information so as to come to an awareness of the purpose of this group of(weirdo's)AA members? They hug your neck,(if you will let them) and tell you to come back! AA was the first place I was welcomed in a long, long time, in the beginning! I have been to many meetings over the past 2 decades and go now to share experience, strength and hope with the newcomers and all alike! That is how the program worked for me and how it will work for you! AA just works to help us stay sober! You have only got to keep coming back! Be blessed! Mr. Denny
