Most addicts die without achieving their "bottom in life!" After your death those who love you will wonder why you were not able or willing to stop the destructive behavior of addictive substance abuse? The truth is that we are not able to stop or willing to stop with out direction and support in most cases. The compulsion to use chemicals is strong when we are alone and in early recovery. That is why it is recommended that we associate with other recovering people. We share the strength of the group! Get a sponsor and get ready to live your life unafraid! It is a process! I love my Preacher but...(.long blog) Happy January 2, everyone! Welllllllll, preacher got on one of my nerves today! Ha! He and I have had this discussion before and we agree that each view has its merits! He trumps me in that his book has more authority than mine, WWW.acureforaddiction.com! I agree however, with this observation to be viewed and considered. Alcohol use is a sin according to the KJV Bible, I do not disagree. This spiritual paradigm is accepted. When we consider the medical paradigm we discover that alcohol use is medicly beneficial when used externally to sanitize the skin. Inappropriate use (drinking,)causes behaviors which are not usual for the user. Yes they (the user,) is responsible if they misuse (to drink) alcohol, that is sin. If they can honestly say that they would not have behaved as they did had they not been using alcohol or drugs, another consideration is to be added to the culpability factor. Intoxication by alcohol or any other drug which causes "loss of control, physical or mental-memory loss- shaking of the hands or internal body organs when sobering up indicates a possible "PROBLEM!" HOW BIG DOES A GUNSHOT WOUND HAVE TO BE TO BE CALLED A GUNSHOT WOUND? Alcoholism is that use of alcohol which causes problems, 1 or many! If a person returns to alcohol after having problems due to its use, that is a problem, thus alcoholism. I love my pastor and he is correct in his view. I only offer this additional information for your consideration. Stopping the use of alcohol, call it sin, call it disease, it does meet the American Medical Associations specific criteria for being a disease of the body and the American Psychiatric Associations criteria for mental illness. Sin no more, drink no more, both solve the immediate problems caused by chemical abuse. Is alcoholism sin or sickness? Yes is a correct answer. Is Arctic ocean water cold or is it wet? Yes would also be a correct answer. Helping people with these difficulties is just like God! Help them please! Does it make a difference to the fireman if the water used on a house fire came from a water truck or a city hydrant? It only matters to the helper, the dis-eased (fire) sufferer cares not! May God bless your new year according to his riches. Blog on, Mr. Denny

Sobriety maintenance is a personal responsibility. When we invest in the recovery of another alcoholic we sometimes take credit for their successes, unconsciously! We want sobriety for them so badly that at times we are willing to work on their"issues" harder than they are willing to work! Then, when our sponsee experiences a relapse(returning to the addictive behavior of using) we feel as if we have failed ourselves. Today I had this experience! What did I do wrong, was my instant question? Reality is , I did nothing wrong! Codependency is a risk we take when we invest in the recovery of another alcoholic. It is imparitive that we recognize it for what it is and backup 3 steps to achieve a fresh perspective. We can want recovery for our charge however we must remain firm in the knowledge that(1, we did not cause their relapse. (2, we can not control their behaviors and (3, we are not their cure for addiction. Step 1, powerlessness! Lest we ever forget! God is God! I am not! Pray for them, encourage them, direct them and allow them to travel their own path! Happy New Years eve! Blog on!! www.acureforaddiction.com Mr. Denny | | | |
