Survive your relapse! This is really good!

12.21.07
Blog post

Today has been a challenge. My case Mr. O and I, went to a meeting Friday and he fills a room! After 13 years of sobriety he relapsed. It has been difficult for him to accept starting all over in sobriety. When we process the experience there is more than one way to do so. A) It can be such a negative experience that he never gets above it and dies due to the disease or, B) he can learn from the experience , accept responsibility for the decisions and choices he made and practice this program of recovery?
We never have only one choice! Making the best choice at the time of decision is the key! This is where our recovery board comes into play!
We have a sponsor(if you don’t , get one ASAP!) Then you have meetings, meetings, and more meetings! Professionals of every flavor and a family who will not reject you no matter how bad you messed things up! Be Honest, Open and Willing to recover! That is the HOW of recovery! Ask in most any meeting and the elders will help you find it! Mr. O is sober since 1-8-07 and I am proud of him! Any of us can succeed in this program! I pray it will be you also!
Good Health and Be Blessed!

“Freedom is not free" Free from addiction...cont'd

cont'd...
I will show you how! The answer is not money!

“Freedom is not free” is a statement usually made when discussing our country and the tenants of our republic. Many of our military men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice by dying in service to our country during times of peace and war. The paradigm’s affected by addiction have nothing to do with war or peace in this discussion except in the paradigm of suffering and death due to addiction itself! When the topic is addiction, war and peace can both be “hell on earth!”
A friend has a spouse who is suffering with their addiction and my friend is working the Alanon program. We have had many discussions about the recovery from or suffering with aspects of this disease. Being a very successful addiction professional, now retired, I have written two books and have volunteered in other countries teaching addiction professionals about therapy and treatment in lieu of executing the addict. Some governments are serious about this problem. America is not there yet! (Thank God!)
My friends program teaches them to not control the addicts behavior as they have no influence over their abstinence or active addiction. I understand the premise as their program is about their sanity and survival regardless of the survival of the addict or alcoholic. I get that!
The “touchey feeley aspect of their program? I get that too! My premise is that no death is acceptable on my watch if I can do something about it! Some addicts will die regardless of the “S.O.s” (significant others) behaviors or actions. Being recovering now for over 20 years personally and having treated many thousands of addicts, (some of which did die, several as a matter of fact!) my feelings and observations are tainted with the knowledge of feeling that I did everything in my power to forestall the inevitable in my attempt to prevent it totally!
The difference is I live with no guilt for their death knowing I did everything I could! When your program teaches you to” let go and let God!” I get that also! But what if God is busy with many thousands of other addicts hell bent for early death, maybe like yours? Being engaged in an active treatment and therapy program with people standing by to assist you with your suffering is invaluable also! That is what this blog is about. Free alcohol and drug therapy which is scaleable. What are your needs? Problems? Conflicts? Challenges? Solutions? Thoughts? Yes dear readers I do care! Why? Because someone did it for me, that is why!
Read this blog and comment! As often as possible I will monitor, contribute, revise or suggest things, actions or thoughts which the reader is free to accept or reject at will. Free will! That is what got us in the mess we are in if we are a practicing addict regardless of the chemical! This blog is solution oriented! Professionals and academics alike are free to post here.

Recovering or suffering, we still need each other!

See his blog here!
Excellent read Sir Carl! Today I had the pleasure of my grandson Mr. Mason as we call him. Had a known the pleasure of grandchildren, I would have "had them fiirst!" This morning at 1 a.m. my recovering son called,( he knew I would be working!") Guess what i see, "D"? The Rocky Mountains of Colorado! He is on a short field trip with his church. The energy we receive from these recovering folks (related or not?) give us what we need to "PUT ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER!" Live your life and be blessed with good health this Merry Christmas!  Surrender and the fight is over for the codependent

Excellent post Sir Carl! I had heard this before but it has been many years. With your permission I will forward it to a friend? I failed to successfully save it to my file record after your prior grant of permission so, if I am once again privileged to receive it I will act accordingly. Have I mentioned that I am a bit more proactive? Wait, I have court orders! I forget sometimes! Ha.(kidding-grin!)
I knew a lady, Ms. Suz who did her masters work on the benefits of using humor in therapy for treating alcoholism. Literally laughing ourselves sober! Ha! She passed a few years ago and was sober when she was transformed to spirit! She wanted that! I can hardly speak of her without tears! She was one of my mentors. We all loved her. The moral is that laughter is very good therapy for alcoholics! Good Health and Be Blessed! Mr. Dennygoodpenny
